List of Rejected Candidates for GATE 2019 Released; Know More

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras will be conducting GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) in 2019. The institute has released the list of candidates whose applications for the examination has been cancelled, on the official website or the GOAPS portal. Two lists of rejected candidates for GATE have been released by IIT Madras on their website –

  1. The list of candidates who have submitted a duplicate application
  2. The list of candidates who have failed to meet the eligibility criteria.

As previously mentioned in the brochure or prospectus for GATE 2019, the admit cards will not be generated for any of the rejected applications and application fees will not be refunded. Also, it stated that candidates who have applied more than once for the same paper will be allowed to appear in any one of the sessions only and all the remaining applications made by the candidate will be rejected. However, candidates who have been rejected can submit necessary documents by contacting the exam authorities.

How to check the rejected list of candidates for GATE 2019?

The rejected lists of candidates contain the enrolment IDs. Candidates who wish to view the list can follow the steps mentioned below,

  • Visit http://gate.iitm.ac.in/ .
  • Go to “Important Notice” to find the two lists.
  • Download the lists.
  • Search for the required enrolment ID.

List for Provisionally Accepted Applications

IIT Madras has also released a separate list of candidates whose applications have been selected just provisionally. The errors in such applications have to be rectified by the candidates within February 15, 2019, or else the results of the examination will be withheld by the conducting authorities.

GATE 2019 Eligibility

To be eligible for GATE, candidates have to be an Indian national. NRI candidates from Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Ethiopia and United Arab Emirates (UAE) are also eligible.

Candidates should also have B.Tech/B.E degree or M.Tech/M.E degree to appear for GATE 2019. There is no minimum percentage of marks required for the degrees.

Also, there is no age limit for GATE.

GATE 2019 Important Information

GATE 2019 is scheduled to be conducted on February 2, February 3, February 9 and February 10. Each day will have two shifts – one in the morning and other in the afternoon. Admit Cards will be made available from January 4, 2019.

The result of GATE 2019 will be released on March 16, 2019. The score will be valid for the next three years from the date of release of the result.

GATE 2019 will be conducted for 24 subjects that include Aerospace Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Architecture and Planning, Biotechnology, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering among others. Students can apply for any one stream.

GATE examination will be held in several Indian cities and overseas centres are Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Colombo (Sri Lanka), Dhaka (Bangladesh), Dubai (UAE), Kathmandu (Nepal) and Singapore.

GATE is a 3-hour examination that is conducted online. There are 65 questions and the total allotted mark is 100. The questions are MCQ type and numerical type. Numerical problems do not have multiple choices for answers.

Importance of GATE score

GATE is the entrance test necessary for admission to M.E/M.Tech Programs and Doctoral Programs in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/ in the seven IITs in India and IISc. Candidates qualifying GATE can also get financial assistance when pursuing Masters Programs.

GATE score is also an important eligibility criterion for recruitment programs by several PSUs. PSUs like Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL), Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) etc select candidates on the basis of their GATE scores. Many departments in the Central Government also recruit on the basis of GATE. Posts like Senior Field Officer (Tele), Senior Research Officer (Crypto) and Senior Research Officer (S&T) in Cabinet Secretariat, such Group A level posts require GATE qualified candidates.

Know These Important Instructions from NTA for JEE Main 2019

The Joint Entrance Examination also popularly known as the JEE Main 2019 has begun its first session examination starting from January 08, 2019. The examination is conducted by the National Testing Agency in two sessions, one in January and the other in April. Considering the importance of the examination in deeming the admission of candidates to varied engineering and architecture courses, the NTA has rendered out few important instructions for candidates to take care of.

Check out the important instructions for JEE Main 2019

  • Candidates are advised to download the Admit Card from the official website of JEE or NTA.
  • Check the reporting time, centre, and closing time of the gate at the centre, examination date, slot timing and Venue of the test.
  • Candidates must report at the exam centre in time without delay.
  • Students reporting late after the reporting time will under no circumstances be allowed to get inside the exam centre.
  • Considering the weather and traffic in the location, aspirants are advised to arrange for transport and leave their house in accordance to the reporting time.
  • All candidates are advised to carry along the printed copy of Admit Card), one passport size coloured photograph, a valid Original copy of Photo Identity proof.
  • The Identity proofs must be original documents. Aadhaar and Ration Card are also acceptable documents.
  • However, ID cards those issued by Colleges, Universities, Schools, Coaching Centres will not be counted as ID proof.
  • AADHAR enrollment receipts devoid of AADHAR number, photocopies or images of identity proof stored in the mobile phones, etc. will not be accepted.
  • Candidates will not be allowed inside the examination centre if they fail to carry the mentioned documents i.e. Admit Card, Photograph and Identity Proof.
  • Candidates belonging to PWD category are required to carry the requisite certificates as proof.
  • Students belonging to the said category are requested to reach the exam center early to the reporting time.
  • Students who have an issue of diabetes may carry fruits, sugary tablets, water bottles to the exam hall.
  • Packaged food items will not be allowed into the exam hall.
  • No other item or thing will be allowed inside the exam hall other than the above -mentioned ones.
  • Items like Pencil Box, geometry box, Handbag, purse, stationary, printed or written materials, eatables and water packed or in a loose condition, mobile phones, electric devices, gadgets etc. will not be entertained inside the exam hall.
  • All candidates will be provided with the necessary materials including rough sheet, pen/ pencil at the exam centre for rough work.
  • Candidates must write their roll number and name mentioning at the top right corner of the paper.
  • After the exam, the paper used for rough work must be handed back to the invigilator along with the Admit Card when leaving the exam centre.
  • Lastly, all the students attending the exam must enter the required details in the Attendance Sheet written in legible handwriting.
  • You must assign your signature, left thumb impression and paste your photograph in the Attendance sheet.
  • In the case of thumb impression, you must ensure the left-hand thumbprint is clear and not smudged.

Calcutta High Court gives 20 marks to NEET candidate for Translation error

The most coveted medical entrance exam of the country NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) saw some serious errors from the side of the examination conducting authorities this year. CBSE (from 2019 NTA would be the official NEET conducting authority) who was entrusted to conduct NEET 2018 across India successfully, made certain translation related errors in setting the question paper.

The West Bengal NEET 2018 aspirants were seen affected with this error in translation of questions in Bengali. The Calcutta University found that there were translation related mistakes in 5 questions out of a total of 180 questions that were asked in the exam.

The matter was taken to Calcutta High Court whereby candidates requested the court to issue an order to grant students (of West Bengal region who took NEET 2018) compensation for this mistake of official authorities in face of grace marks or re-exam. The case was filed by a student Wasim A Hossain asking for the compensation to be provided. The high court after taking all the evidences in consideration ruled in favor of the candidate, and order to grant him 16 marks (as he attempted 4 out of those 5 questions).

The Calcutta High Court lashed at the CBSE and also directed the exam conducting authority to pay utmost heed while conducting the examinations in future as errors like this can have an effect on lives of thousands of aspirants.

As per the court’s orders, 20 marks (since each question carry four marks and there was an error in 5 questions) were to be granted as grace marks to West Bengal region students who took NEET 2018 exam. The decision is estimated to benefit thousands of students from West Bengal.

Meanwhile the petitioner Wasim A Hossain is planning to move the case to the division bench of Calcutta High Court as he says that not five but 98 questions out of 180 in NEET 2018 had translation related mistakes.

West Bengal CM took the issue to center

The West Bengal CM discussed this issue of translation related mistake in NEET 2018 with the Union HRD minister and demanded the conduct of re-exam. The Calcutta High Court also sought clarifications from CBSE in this matter.

The Calcutta HC also asked the NEET 2018 conducting authority to reserve seat for the examinee till a bench decides on the plea on the error in relation to the translation in Bengali version of the paper.

Similar errors in Tamil Nadu region

The case of translation related error in NEET 2018 was also seen in the Tamil version of the paper. As many as 49 questions (worth 196 marks) were wrongly translated in Tamil.

Providing relief to around 24,000 aspirants who took the NEET 2018 exam from Tamil Nadu region the Madras High Court ordered CBSE to grant 196 marks as grace (For 49 questions with translation error as each question carries 4 marks).

This translation related error has bought CBSE in a bad light while causing problems for the candidates who took the exam in the regional language.

BITSAT 2019 Application Process Started; Here are the Related Details

BITSAT is conducted for the students who are seeking admission in undergraduate and graduate programs offered by Birla Institute of Technology and Science. So, filling and submitting application form is the first step for all the students who will be going to appear in the exam.

BITS Pilani has released the application form on January 4. Students have to submit the filled application form by March 20. BITSAT will be conducted from May 16 to 26 in an online mode. Along with the application form students need to pay application fee either through net banking, credit/ debit card or through offline mode.

BITSAT 2019 Application Process

BITSAT 2019 application process consists of steps like registration, filling the form, uploading documents, and payment of application. It’s mandatory for the students to complete each step by entering genuine information. The steps that students need to follow while filling the application form is examination below.

Step 1: Registration  

  • It is the core step that every student should follow before start filling the application form.
  • Open the BITSAT admission portal
  • Click on “New Registration” tab
  • Candidate’s Name, Gender, Date of Birth, and Email ID are the details that students need to fill during registration.

Step 2: Fill the Online BITSAT Application Form

  • Enter the personal details like Father’s name, Mother’s name, Nationality, Address, Contact number.
  • Click on “Submit” button
  • Choose at least three exam centres according to the preference.
  • Students who wish to select Dubai as examination centre will be required to choose only one option i.e. Dubai.
